Kitesurfing #1

Near to the Hayle estuary (The Bluff) is a designated Kitesurfing zone. I knew that it is not safe to swim in the river and the estuary due to fast running currents, but I had no idea that kite surfing went on here. Makes perfect sense as there are no swimmers or surfers to get in the way and the shallow estuary waters make it perfect to skim along the surface. The flat beach is backed by high sand dunes and Marram grass and stretches the three or so miles to Gwithian sands and Godrevy lighthouse.

What fun . . . .I would love to try but I know how fast they go and I don’t have much confidence in my ability to steer!!

I would have loved to try this thirty years ago. Now I just enjoy taking photos 🙂

  3. A perfect photo of what looks like a perfect day. All those tiny linking patches of red, and the balancing of people and kites.

First visit to a beach with the boy. Didn’t want to go far, but we did end up scrambling back up the dunes! Not sure that was a good idea!

Lovely vibrant colours in this shot, Jude. Life at the seaside can be great!
    Best wishes, Pete. x

It can indeed Pete. Lovely to feel the sand on my bare toes again 🙂

Great picture – the sky and the perfect flatness of the beach look almost surreal.

My first visit to this particular beach. But I shall be there a lot more often once the crowds disappear again.

Oh no! Another sport my grandson will want to try. Rock climbing, bungee jumping, and paragliding are in the queue right now. He’s only 7, so he has to wait. Lovely photos.

Thanks Elizabeth. Your grandson sounds like a very sporty young man!

It looks endless, that beach! 🙂 I like watching them. Not easy to get good shots though. Reminds me- I have some kites somwhere, sans surfers 🙂 Happy Sunday, Jude!

It seems endless Jo! Looked as if we could walk all the way to St Ives, but there is the tricky problem of crossing that estuary!

Now this is where I wish I were 30 years younger. I used to windsurf extensively in my 20s. Now in my fifties I look at this sport and just wish I could have a go.. nicely photographed Jude.

It does look fun. I first came across it in South Africa, sadly too late for me to have a go.

  9. What a glorious day you had, Jude. I love watching people doing this but I wouldn’t be game to try myself.

It felt good to be back in Cornwall.

  10. What a gorgeous day! I live the contrast in the kite and it’s surroundings! Love the water and sky!

I like watching kite surfing and it looks like a perfect day 🙂

It was lovely; breezy and not that warm, but the sun was shining and the sea was sparkling and the water was warm enough to paddle in 🙂

I like a like, but I love a chat
