Sunset Strip

Also taken on 7th January, but this time at 17:06 when only a sliver of light was visible over the hills.

  1. So minimal – almost like a painting. 🙂

    1. Heyjude says:

      Yes. Like a Rothko!

  2. Oh I love that moment, and you’ve caught it well

    1. Heyjude says:

Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn’t. I just waited until I knew whether or not it was. And then ran indoors as it was blooming freezing!

Vegas? 🙂 🙂 I do love these colours, and Meg’s right- just the exact moment.

    1. Heyjude says:

The old TV Programme. The name just struck a cord 😀

      1. restlessjo says:

I know! I was just picturing you on the Strip 🙂 🙂

The days are getting longer now, hooray!

    1. Heyjude says:

They are, but they have been wet and windy for far too long!

  5. Sue says:

Reminds me of the colours in Maeshafn, Wales many years ago….

    1. Heyjude says:

Don’t know that name, north Wales?

      1. Sue says:

North Wales, Mold, we were at a Youth Hostel there in the late ’70s….

        1. Heyjude says:

Mmm… not an area I know.

Great square. Great colours. A nice abstract feel. Love it!
    Best wishes, Pete. x

    1. Heyjude says:

      Very abstract. Very Rothko 🙂

        1. Heyjude says:

          I didn’t. Have you been?

        2. Yes, but a long time ago. The next time I’m near there I’ll try to check it out again for a current assessment. I drove to Houston twice in 2017, but just to catch planes to Auckland and Calgary, not to spend any time in Houston.

  7. You’ve been to the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles, haven’t you? I took your title to be a play on words between that and the dark strip across the bottom of the photograph.

    1. Heyjude says:

Not been to LA other than Long Beach, but I remember a TV programme of the name way back in the ’60s I think. I was referring to the yellow band, but it could of course mean the dark strip.

      1. You’re right that the yellow is more appropriate as a sunset strip.

Is this the television program you recall?

        1. Heyjude says:

I just remember the name, not the programme. I was very young then 😉

  8. The color contrasts are stunning:)

    1. Heyjude says:

The Sky Painter at its best 🙂

  9. pommepal says:

That is stunning Jude. Caught at the perfect moment. Did you keep snapping away to get this or just wait and catch it at the right moment?

    1. Heyjude says:

I took a couple of photos, including the one with the birds and then waited until there was just the narrow band left. When it is cloudless you never know if the colours will materialise.

      1. pommepal says:

Yes it is always a “wait and see” many times I have walked away then the sky has just turned to fire…

  10. myplaidheart says:

    Love the composition. Big sky.

  11. Another beauty, taken on our wedding anniversary too!

      1. Thanks – it was 35 years this year. I’ve been married far longer than I wasn’t. 🙂

        1. Heyjude says:

Well I suspect I won’t reach that number – we’ve been married 14 years – the longest one yet!
