Crocus tommasinianus – a mini mauve candle

A new variety of crocus planted last autumn finally opened this week in the lovely sunshine we have enjoyed. So nice to have rain-free days again! The tightly closed blue flower is  Iris reticulata ‘Harmony’.

They’re a lovely soft colour aren’t they? Make the most of today, it’s supposed to be the last sunny one for a while!

No sun here Gilly, just a white sky and the wind picking up. I don’t mind being indoors really, lots of posts to write and books to read. And a wood burner to fire up 😀

I wish I could redistribute the weather! I would send our relentless rain to Cape Town which could really use it.

    1. Heyjude says:

I’d be more than happy to send mine too, or to Portugal where they are struggling.

      1. Elizabeth says:

        Didn’t realize that about Portugal.

The southern part is rather dry.

Always a welcome sight. Beautiful, Jude.

  4. They look lovely and delicate – I don’t think I’ve seen this one before.

It is supposed to self-seed so I am hoping for more next year.

      1. Fingers crossed – they are lovely.

Nice! My heart would be absolutely singing if I knew spring could be relied upon to come in February! We still have many more weeks to go.

We have a week of Arctic weather coming our way this week, so it seems spring has been put on hold for a while!

Lovely to see Jude but have they survived the “beast from the east” saw it on our tv news tonight.

    1. Heyjude says:

Funny you should say that as we have just had a snowstorm! Only a sprinkle but it was quite a whiteout! Have a feeling some of the more tender plants are going to die.

      1. pommepal says:

Oh dear, now I heard there is more coming from the west for you….🌬🌨❄️

        1. Heyjude says:

Indeed. Tomorrow could be worse. No worries though, we don’t need to go out, did the shopping on Monday and have wood for the fire if required. It’ll be back to rain next week no doubt. I just hope the spring flowers recover!

        2. pommepal says:

Keep tucked up warm Jude. Sounds as though you will need that wood

        3. Heyjude says:

We have pretty efficient underfloor heating, just hope we don’t run out of oil!

    Lovely👌👌

  8. Hoping to see the crocus displays when I go to Harrogate later this week. They are usually stunning there at this time of year but they may have been damaged by the snow though hope not. The ones in your garden are very pretty 😃

    1. Heyjude says:

My crocuses have finished, but you might be lucky further north.

      1. My dad said that they are starting to come out a couple of weeks ago so hope I’ll still get to see them!
