Cornish favourites: a lighthouse

The last shore station on the north coast of west Cornwall before reaching Land’s End, Pendeen lighthouse stands atop sheer cliffs on a headland below the village of Pendeen, between St Just and St Ives. Pendeen Watch lighthouse has been guiding ships through this area for over a hundred years, its fairly squat white tower measuring 17 metres.

Leave the car in the (free) car park in Pendeen and take a walk down the lovely Lighthouse Lane to the coast. You will see a lot more than if you drive there.

I’ve just been on a very pleasant journey in Cornwall with you, reading about your visit there and the beautiful walks you took. The scenery is so pretty with its wildflowers, green fields and sea views. No wonder you wanted to move there!

Thanks Jane.I appreciate your visit. Yes, Cornwall is very pretty and has a lovely coastline too, and being remote from the rest of Britain it feels different too. Nearest I could get to the blue waters of Australia 😀

Nice memories of this post. I like to seek out lighthouses too.
I was surprised to find one in Southwold, well away from the edge of the coast, in the centre of town.

    Best wishes, Pete. x

Ah, yes. The Southwold one is quite cute. I guess the town wasn’t there originally. Or maybe the lighthouse has been moved?

  4. What beautiful blue skies, Jude. And that is a rather squat lighthouse, but it gleams so!

Beautiful scenes Jude. The lighthouse, for some reason, reminds me of Greece
