Come in, the water is lovely…

The last time I was here it was a very different story – A and I got totally soaked! I had to take my car in to the VW garage in Helston yesterday (an intermittent fault starting the engine) and seeing I was:

  • already more than half way to the Lizard Point
  • it was still only 10:30 am
  • it was a low tide
  • the sun was shining

although a little hazy, the sun was trying to break through and the temperature was rising so I decided to take a drive down to Kynance Cove, not intending to go all the way down onto the beach, but to take some photos of the views and the coastal flora.Β  I also wanted to visit a garden down on the Lizard, which I have been meaning to for the last three summers!

So although the car investigation cost me a whopping Β£90 (no parts, just labour for cleaning some connections and running diagnostics!) it was a perfect day. Hot, sunny, though still somewhat hazy on the coast and I even found coffee and walnut cake at the garden. Sorry I ate it before thinking of taking a photo. Maybe if the weather holds I will return to the beach with my cozzie and actually have a dip. It did look soooo enticing.

    Glorious colour of that sea!

    1. Heyjude says:

It was mesmerising Sue. I took rather a lot of photos!

Reminds me of a day in Cornwall in the 1980s…. https://suejudd.com/2014/06/25/bedruthan-steps-cornwall/

        1. Heyjude says:

I see I have been there before. And yes, the water is stunning there. I do wish these beaches weren’t so much of a mission to reach. My knees really do object to lots of steps.

        2. Sue says:

Yes, I didn’t get down to the beach that day as it was high tide when I was there, and had other places to see….

  2. janesmudgeegarden says:

Mmmm….the colour of that water is so glorious. Would it be warm to swim now?

    1. Heyjude says:

Sea temperature around 17 degrees at the moment, refreshing!

  3. beetleypete says:

Another good reason to live in Cornwall. (After pasties and cream teas of course.)
Might be a bit chilly for swimming though! πŸ™‚
    Best wishes, Pete.

It was so hot and humid yesterday I was very tempted.

  4. pommepal says:

Did you get my comment? It seems to have disappeared

  5. pommepal says:

Ok I will send it again… I asked what is the temp, but see you answered Jane with that question. The ocean temps over here are 23deg and Jack is swimming every day, not me though. I sent this twice but both times it just disappeared when I pushed send… strange!!!

    1. Heyjude says:

Your comments disappeared into my trash folder because I have ‘Jack’ as a trigger word – I get tons of spam from somewhere which uses ‘Jack’ and ‘God’ etc so I have set it up as a filter so it goes direct to the Trash. I do check every week to fish out any legitimate comments. I expect this one will go into Trash too!!

      1. pommepal says:

Oh how funny, I could just call him him (not using the name!!,)

        1. Heyjude says:

I also use ‘ru’ to stop the russian stuff getting through, but that also blocks words like ‘true’

        2. pommepal says:

Not had any Russian stuff come through for a while now

        3. Heyjude says:

No, they seem to have stopped that. Now I get ‘SEXY…..’ stuff all the time, but at least it goes straight into the spam box.

        4. pommepal says:

          ☹️

I’ll see if you are in the spam folder. Hang on…

  7. Penny Post says:

Beautiful colours, who knew the sea could look like that in the UK.

    1. Heyjude says:

It’s beautiful down here in Cornwall – why so many visitors are attracted to the region I guess.

  8. It does look enticing. I’ve missed your little people. Do have a dip – and another slice of walnut cake.

    1. Heyjude says:

I haven’t been in the water in nearly 30 years! But I do own a costume: too much cake will definitely show!

      1. I rarely go in the water but I own three costumes! I’m glad I’m half-blind – it removes self-consciousness, because I believe that if I can’t see them they can’t see me!

        1. Heyjude says:

I’m past caring what anyone thinks about me. I see young women twice my size parading in clothes I wouldn’t dream of wearing.

  9. Hey Jude! I’ve missed you my friend. My blogging is further and further apart these days. Numerous and ongoing works at the new/old pad and just got my youngest moved back home and settled at last, while trying to keep the writing going. And of course, discovering our new garden, what is actually there after the long, cold winter, where to put my mother’s many plants in pots from her old garden and creating new. It’s so hard writing inside during our recent glorious weather! Your header photo is absolutely stunning. I wish I had views like that on the way to a car repair! I’ve never been to Lizard Point, on the list as with so many others. A perfect day indeed πŸ™‚ xxx

    1. Heyjude says:

Lovely to see you Sherri. Life sounds very busy for you right now, glad you enjoying your new place and things are falling into place. Blogging and writing can wait for less clement weather. We have to make the most of this sunshine πŸ˜€

      1. Thanks Jude, you know well the aftermath of a house move. It takes ages doesn’t it? Now that we have an idea of where the sun goes during spring and into summer, we’ve been able get to grips with the garden, but a lot to do to get it the way we want. Definintely have to make the most of it! Thanks Jude, lovely to see you too in your beautiful Cornwall πŸ™‚ xxx

  10. Su Leslie says:

Ouch to the cost of car repairs; but that beach is definitely a compensation (as are coffee and cake).

    1. Heyjude says:

Not even repaired! Could happen again, any time. And then will require a new starter motor at an extra Β£300. Salty air isn’t good for cars that don’t have a garage.

      1. Su Leslie says:

Oh no! Car repairs are soooo expensive. I think my Golf is going to need some money spent soon (before I can get an MOT). The 3D printed part that the Big T had made (yes, seriously) looks like it’s at the end of its useful life and I might have to resort to a bought one.

        1. Heyjude says:

3D printed part? Maybe I need to get myself a 3D printer. Oh, wait a minute, I might still need a mechanic…

        2. Su Leslie says:

T’s a mechanical engineer. He does that sort of stuff for fun!

        3. Heyjude says:

You are very lucky. My OH is hopeless at anything like that.

        4. Su Leslie says:

Hehe. The downside of living with uber-engineering man is that he works full-time and travels a lot in his job, so he doesn’t actually have much spare time to fix things. But he still won’t easily agree to letting someone else do repairs. Hence, we have a lot of stuff that “needs work.” Sigh.

  11. That looks very enticing indeed, Jude. I hope you do make it back, but at least you got a stunning photo and walnut cake!

    1. Heyjude says:

I got lots of stunning photos Cathy. Enough for a photo post for you I think πŸ™‚

      1. Good, Jude. Can’t wait to see them!! πŸ™‚

  12. Ali says:

Oh my goodness that is a wonderful photo! I don’t think I have enough turquoise in my life. Your morning sounds wonderful (apart from the bill). Yes, I dare you to swim next time.

    1. Heyjude says:

If I get another day like yesterday before the schools break up I will give it a go! Maybe. πŸ˜‰

  13. The colours are glorious, from the blue of the water to those yellow rocks. What a wonderful way to spend a day.

    1. Heyjude says:

I don’t get to the beaches as often as I should, but then I do like the peace and quiet (well when the cattle stop performing) of the countryside and the garden keeps me busy. Saying that I might try somewhere new tomorrow, before the threatened rain on Thursday.

  14. Pete Hillman says:

It looks really enticing! Beautiful shot, Jude!

    1. Heyjude says:

Thanks Pete, the views were stunning yesterday in the sun.

  15. The colours are stunning – nothing much beats Cornwall on a sunny day. Now, before I allow my mouth to water too much – did you have a piece of cake which was coffee and walnut, or did you have coffee and a piece of walnut cake? I like the sound of walnut cake, but a coffee and walnut cake is a great favourite. πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

    1. Heyjude says:

Coffee and walnut cake and juice. I can’t resist.

      1. Now my mouth is watering at full flow – although I might swap the juice for a cup of tea. πŸ™‚

        1. Heyjude says:

There is tea too – make it yourself though and pop the money in the honesty box!

        2. It sounds like a lovely place – I like when there are honesty boxes.

  16. Lucid Gypsy says:

Ahh it’s very pretty Jude and I’d paddle but that’s all!

  17. Gorgeous image, Jude. I remarked today to hubby on the beautiful shade of blue here in St Ives. Very inviting indeed, but I saw that even the teenagers were wearing wet suits. Don’t think I’ll be going for a paddle this time around. Hope we can arrange a meeting. πŸ˜ƒ

    1. Heyjude says:

It might be colder on the Atlantic side of the coast. I didn’t see anyone wearing a wetsuit here. What are your plans? Email me and we can see if we can arrange to meet at some point,

      1. I have emailed you twice, but no reply yet.

        1. Heyjude says:

Emailed you today! Hopefully you’ll get it.

        2. Yes I did. Thanks. I’ve replied

  18. restlessjo says:

It does look rather wonderful, Jude, and I don’t like walnuts so no worries there. πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

    1. Heyjude says:

Walnuts? I am going to have to think about this.

    2. Heyjude says:

Ah, penny dropped. The cake. No worries there was a Victoria sponge, chocolate brownies and something else I think. My eyes went straight to the coffee and walnut πŸ˜€

      1. restlessjo says:

I’ll have the something else. πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ Contrary to popular opinion, I don’t eat a lot of cake.

        1. Heyjude says:

No. Of course not. It’s the Driver who eats cake.

        2. restlessjo says:

          Exactly right πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

  19. LensScaper says:

    Spectacular colours in that sea.

    1. Heyjude says:

It can be truly gorgeous around this coast.
