Cornwall in Colours

I don’t often go to the beach during the summer, but my youngest son and family paid us a visit in early July and we met up at Godrevy for lunch and a wander on the beach. It was a beautiful day with barely a whisper of a cloud in sight.

Later on in the month I was in St Ives itself having taken middle son to the GP early in the morning and we went for a short walk to the harbour and the pier then around to the pretty little Porthgwidden beach where we stopped for a coffee. Again it was a beautiful day. The water was the most gorgeous cyan colour in the clear light.

Living where I do in West Cornwall I am practically surrounded by the sea. The downside is we get more than our fair share of foggy weather and during the school holidays a lot of visitors which mean the roads are choked and car parks full. The upside is we have soft golden sandy beaches within a 20 minute drive and the most fabulous colours of the water ranging from aquamarine “water of the sea” to ultramarine “beyond the sea” like these images show.

And when the visitors go home, we have it all to ourselves…

    Fabulous photos.

    1. Heyjude says:

Well it is hard not to get good photos in such a place 🙂

In some ways, your neck of the woods is mine, but with a millennium or so extra human habitation and building.

  3. Gorgeous images, Jude. 😍

    1. Heyjude says:

Yes, Cornwall scrubs up well sometimes 😀

  4. They’re all picture postcard quality Jude. So beautiful! I guess the trick is staying away until the crowds have dispersed.

I’ve always loved that view of the harbour beach from above 🙂 it’s probably my favourite place in Cornwall.

    1. Heyjude says:

It is the best view of the harbourside. There is another great view (my blog header) from the opposite Porthmeor side.

You make me want to fight my way through the throng and rush onto any one of those beaches right now! Idyllic scenes 🙂

    1. Heyjude says:

Trust me, it’s not a pretty sight when crammed with holiday-makers. Early morning maybe a good time whilst they are all having their breakfasts. Do you have some nice beaches in your area?

      1. Sandra says:

We do, Jude, but quite different to yours. No miles of golden sands! Mostly rocky coves which are very beautiful and little used in comparison to further west or north. But not always easy to reach and sometimes lacking facilities. Neither of which are bad!

        1. Heyjude says:

Not easy to reach is a problem for me, my balance is not so great any more and I often have to do undignified scrambling and bottom shuffling!

        2. Sandra says:

You are not the only one! 😉

  7. The beach is an appropriate place to be during the European heat wave. It’s been hotter in many places there than in much of Texas.

    1. Heyjude says:

In some parts of Europe, yes. But not Cornwall. We have our own climate here and it is usually a good few degrees lower than anywhere else in the UK!

Love the cove, Jude! There are worse places to be.

    1. Heyjude says:

Indeed there are 🙂 Another gorgeous day today. Hope you are getting some sunshine up north!

      1. restlessjo says:

A bit of a mix, Jude, but it doesn’t much matter. It was dry for yesterday’s walk along the Strid and we had a lovely day. Less exciting today- locked out and swimming lesson, feet up and wine. Made it to the first weekend 🙂 🙂

        1. Heyjude says:

I bet you are ready for the weekend, hopefully free to take it easy / do what you want / meet up with old friends.

  9. What I love about these photos is that even though beachy photos are familiar to me, they are so very different to any I might take around here. You could put Cornwall and Surf Coast photos side by side and you’d know they were taken somewhere different.

I did giggle at the surfing lesson, though.
